Joint Institute for Advanced Materials, Cherokee Campus

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville

BullockSmith, in joint venture with BMa, designed JIAM, a 4-story multidisciplinary scientific research facility on the new Cherokee Campus of UTK. The 142,640 SF facility for JIAM features more than 100 offices on its perimeter and 69 modular lab spaces in its interior. The main entry and quad access is on the first floor, opening into a multi-level lobby space with access to the seminar room, conference room, and second & third floors. Office functions are located around the building perimeter while the building core is made up of laboratory and support spaces. BullockSmith shared in the design development and led the contract document phase of the work for this project with BMa leading schematic design. The project is registered with the US Green Building Council to be LEED Gold certified.
